Spectrum

Written by Steve Milligan on 20th March 2025

He told me it’s a spectrum

The blemish there is me

The ‘x’ is my potential

An axis of my dreams

And I’ve spent a couple of decades

Just hammering myself

Needling my weakness

To try and patch my health

(Chorus)

All the empty miles

Stumbling as the crow flies

And now I’ve come to find

The back-roads are a stubborn friend of mine

I preyed upon the winners

To plagiarise a life

Got flattened by my vices

That grew to twice my height

Days waist-high in the waste

Or crawling in new skin

Til I was bleeding at the knees

Just trying to wear it in

(Chorus)

They’re not paved with perfection

But perspective and acceptance

Of my faults

But where could I have been

If I’d seen the flocks ahead of me

Fall…

(Chorus)
